#OOTD: Watch Inspiration!

Rhianna's Studio #DIY rolex watch #diy

Hello Loves!
I hope you are doing well. As a designer, I am inspired by many things to create a garment. Recently I've been inspired by accessories like jewelry, shoes, and bags! This post in particular shows a recent project in which I was inspired to create an outfit around a lovely watch listed for auction on

This is one of the Men's watches that is up for auction and that has inspired me to create the look I am sharing with you today. has a huge selection of watches that include a large range of brands from Guess to Rolex. If you are in the market for a new watch, fine or decorative art, or collectibles, check out You never know, you could be the winning bidder!
Here is the outfit I designed using the Rolex as inspiration. I've styled it up with some additional accessories.

I love watches, really I love clocks of any sort.  I love a watch with a considerable sized dial/face. I'm generally attracted to the boyfriend style or anything that's chunky and bracelet like. When I can't find a women's watch that I like, I've no shame in wearing a Men's watch. We women are lucky in that way, right?  We can generally wear men's clothing or accessories without anyone turning their noses up at us or having something negative to say.  The style/design of this Rolex is very timeless, classic, and not too trendy. I like this in a watch. I want to feel I can wear it for years to come without feeling it's going to go out of style or it's just seasonal, you know? For this reason I decided to design a classic silhouette for the skirt in my men's accessories inspired look.

DIY Cropped top:  Fabric (HERE & HERE)
This cropped top started as a bodice that I was going to connect to the skirt to make a dress but I decided to make it a two piece set instead. I made this choice so I could get more use out of it by styling it with different bottoms. I shared how I made the bodice that I've turned into a cropped top in a previous post that you can review here. Cropped tops are also really on trend right now and I think they will stick around for a few more seasons so I think it was a good choice to turn this into a cropped top instead of a dress.

The Fabric Story:
I've been enjoying seeing the large textured striped full and pleated skirts a lot of girls have been wearing this and last season. I love the look of the fabric. I searched for fabric like that but I did not have any luck. Since  I couldn't  find the fabric in the store, I created my own. That's the thing with designers, we are problem solvers. I  had a problem and I solved it. LOL! I guess you can say my cropped top is skirt inspired. LOL!

DIY Cropped top and full skirt : Fabric (HERE & HERE)
The skit is gathered with an invisible zipper on the side. I decided to keep it simple. I did think for a moment to stripe the skirt too but with a larger pattern. But I felt it would be too much so I just  color-blocked at the waistband and  the bottom of the skirt. What's cool is that when the top is worn with the skirt, the cropped top overlaps the skirt waistband and it looks like a dress! I am having so much fun with this one outfit, can  you tell?! LOL!
Other Style Options
  1. I plan to make a pair of pants that are color-blocked like tuxedo pants with the black and bone fabric. So I will have three pieces for many options!
  2. I can see adding a button up blouse, possibly chiffon, underneath the cropped top with ankle pants and pumps for a sophisticated look that works for work or even for date night!
  3. I'm also thinking  throwing on a cropped black leather jacket with peep toe booties would add a nice edge to the cropped top and full skirt. This jacket with the watch would add the perfect amount of edge to the look but also dress it down a little bit which makes it more versatile!
As always, thank you for reading! Be sure to leave a comment below if you check out I would love to hear your thoughts and if you've won any bids.
