What's the Traditional 3 Year Anniversary Gift?

Rhianna's Studio Black Leather Hide
Hello Loves!
I hope you are well! Did you know that leather is the traditional gift theme for a third year wedding anniversary? Yes, leather!
Rhianna's Studio 3 year anniversary

As you guys know, my husband and  I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary this week (original post here). Here are my top 3 suggestions for those looking for a 3rd year anniversary gift for a female.  A journal for those who like to write, shoes, or for me and my other sew sisters and designers a nice piece of leather hide, right?!Of course you can choose the colors that work for the gift receiver! And the leather hide can be replaced with a jacket, a handbag, or other clothing item.  But for a sewer or designer this would be AWESOME SAUCE!
I can't leave the men out so here are some suggestions!

Well I don't know if my husband will purchase me a piece of leather seeing as how I've had a beautiful piece of black leather (purchased at PeggySueAlso) for about a year now and I still have not cut into it. It's out of fear though. I am afraid to ruin this beautiful piece of material. Because you know that a hole is created every time the needle enters the leather and there is no fixing it or seam ripping out any mistakes! I am not sure if my sewing machine can even handle it so I am super afraid! I've sewn leather before but it was not with ease. And I did not sew it on the machine I am currently using so that may make a difference. I have a few scraps of leather that I will practice on. I do have a Teflon presser foot that is recommended for sewing leather, but it was for my Janome I will have to test it to see if it will fit on my Kenmore (Fingers crossed). It is a regular multipurpose foot I am thinking to look for a Teflon zipper foot. Have you used one before? Have you had any experience sewing leather? If so, please share.
I've been wanting to make a cropped leather jacket since I purchased this leather.I originally thought to do the asymmetrical zip jacket for the leather but now I think I want to keep it simple and classic. Here's why, true to PhD student form, I've done some research on this. And most of the outcomes look like something I do not want. Most of the jackets I've seen look really stiff and uncomfortable and the fit is just not ideal in my eyes.
Leather asymmetrical jacket Sew a Straight Line-7
Sew a Straight Line used a Burda Asymmetrical Jacket pattern to create her leather jacket. She mentions in her blog post that she would like the shoulders to fit a little better and I agree. She says the jacket is soft  and comfortable but the pictures are not reading that way. I looked at other Burda patterns for jackets and they just look uncomfortable. I can purchase an uncomfortable jacket I do not need to take the time to make one. You know what I mean?
After my research I have concluded that I will not use a store bought pattern instead I will continue as I normally do and make a custom pattern for my simple but classic leather jacket. I don't want it to look too edgy or hard I want it to look good when I dress up and I want it to dress up my jeans t-shirt and heels looks. So I'm thinking to keep the design elements minimal.
In regards to actually cutting and handling the fabric I started doing more research on that and so far the best tips I've come across are on this blog.

I'll keep you posted on my progress! I am thinking I will make an asymmetrical zip jacket but probably out of tweed or boucle or crepe or something like. I do love the look of this style jacket. But without a collar. :-)
