#OOTD How To Style A Striped Mermaid Maxi?

Rhianna's Studio: DIY Red-Orange Tee and DIY Mermaid Maxi Skirt Navy and White stripes
Hello Loves!

Happy Hump Day! I hope you are well! Just a quick hello. I have a laundry list of things to catch up on. So I leave you with this DIY OOTD: Navy and White Striped Mermaid Maxi + Red-orange shirt with pocket.  I hope you enjoy!
------------------------------------------------
This ensemble was created during a design challenge I did in May (Piles to Products). I love to add a pop of color to my outfit. And this is no different. When I ordered the navy and white striped fabric I just knew I had to accent it with either red or orange. I started leaning towards the orange as I thought more about. But I came across this red-orange fabric as I was swatching at fashionfabrics.com and knew I had to use this for the shirt to match my mermaid skirt.

The mermaid skirt is very popular on YouTube and sewing groups that I've come across. I love the look of it. Especially how it accentuates the curve of the hip and then flares from the knee down. I decided to make a faux  drawstring just to add a little character to the skirt. I wanted to some how connect the shirt to the skirt so I made a pocket from the remnants. As usual, all patterns were self-drafted by me. I used elastic in the waistband.
The fabric for the skirt was very difficult to work with. I spoke about this in an earlier post that you can check out here. But I ordered it from lowpricefabric.com. I love the look of the fabric but it was very difficult to work with. The shirt fabric is from fashionfabrics.com. It s a double knit. It doesn't have the best hand but I do like the way it complements my skirt :-)
