Southern Comfort: Summer Home Decor D.I.Y. Project

Hello All! I hope you had a great weekend.
I have had countless comforter and duvet sets over the years and I have not loved any until now...
------------------------------------------
After being fed up with the boring duvet set I had on my bed, I decided to try my hand at making a duvet that I could hopefully love. Of coarse I had to consider my husband when selecting the textile print for the duvet. I couldn't have anything too girly or feminine and with me being sort of a girly-girl I would not be satisfied with something too masculine.  I actually shopped for fabric for a month or so, which increased my frustration. I would share links to fabrics with my husband and he would shoot them down left and right.  Finally, while my sister and I were shopping at Ikea we entered their textile department and I found something I loved! So immediately I take a picture with my camera phone and text it to my husband and he responds he likes it. I'm like finally I've found something! My sister liked it too so that was just icing on the cake.
Okay so it's definitely not traditional but neither am I (after all my wedding dress was fuchsia and black raw silk).  I loved it and my husband liked it so it was on!  Next, I had to figure out how to make it. I knew how much fabric I needed because I researched the measurements for my comforter size (king).

I generally make a pattern for everything. But because this would be a square or rectangle I just draped and measured. I also made three throw pillows to finish the look.  I hand sewed sequins on the pillows to give them a feminine touch and a bit of sparkle! :-)
